Illinois Chiefs release 13-page trailer bill language for you to use and share with legislators

March 25, 2021

Attendance at our members' Town Hall this week topped out at 200 people. Following that meeting, we released actual language that the Illinois Chiefs are suggesting for inclusion in a "trailer bill" to improve the SAFE-T Act, which was HB 3653. It was developed by a small working group led by Past President Chief James R. Kruger, Jr.

Kruger and ILACP Vice President Chief Mitchell R. Davis III met with Senator Elgie Sims, D-Chicago, on Friday, March 19, and presented him with this language.

The document has three purposes:

  1. To give you information about what we're suggesting and to seek your feedback. If you have ideas, please send them to [email protected] and put "Trailer bill" in the subject line
  2. To give you a document that you can share with your state reps and senators or local officials who are asking for the Illinois Chiefs' specific ideas and suggestions
  3. To serve as a discussion document with the bill's sponsors and with all legislators, because we are willing to tweak this language
