Traffic Safety Liaisons and Child Passenger Safety TechniciansPolice departments with trained Child Passenger Safety (CPS) Technicians on staff help build a deep agency trust within the vulnerable and at-risk community. Those CPS Technicians are viewed as helping those with the most need, securing their most trusted commodity, their children. Illinois police chiefs can rest assured that their support builds their agency’s trust and nationally certified training limits the police department’s liability. Each year, the ILACP Safety Liaisons distribute over 1,100 car seats to needy families through trained CPS Technicians in their communities. The hands-on courses will empower your agency to educate your community on proper child seat installation and help reduce the number of children injured and or killed in motor vehicle crashes. Multiple child passenger safety (CPS) technician training classes are held every year across the state. As an additional benefit, the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) also offers technicians with police and fire departments a limited supply of car seats, when requested to do community outreach to the less fortunate. There is now a hybrid-remote version of the CPS Certification Class to help recruit more personnel and make the training more accessible. Police chiefs can sign up their personnel for this National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) certified training with SafeKids at https://cert.safekids.org. |
