Police Memorial Committee

The Illinois Police Officers Memorial was established in 1985 as a way to honor Illinois police officers who died in the line of duty. Five organizations founded the Illinois Police Officers Memorial to honor the sacrifice of law enforcement officers who gave their lives to preserve our way of life. Those founding organizations were the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police, Illinois State Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police, Illinois Police Association, Illinois Sheriff’s Association, and the Illinois Police Benevolent and Athletic Association.

A permanent statue and memorial site were established on the west lawn of the Illinois State Capitol complex in 1990. The names of more than 1,000 police officers, dating back to the 1800s are engraved on the memorial. By engraving the names of these heroes on the monument, these officers will forever be recognized and remembered by the people of Illinois for their heroism and sacrifice.

Chief Steve Neubauer is the current chair of the Police Memorial Committee for the ILACP.
