Lemont Police Chief Sworn In as 2024-2025
Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police President

 

TINLEY PARK, IL - Lemont Police Chief Marc Maton took office as President of the nearly 1,400-member Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police (ILACP) at the organization's annual training conference at the Tinley Park Convention Center in Tinley Park.

ILACP President Chief Marc Maton was sworn in on Friday, April 26 by Senator John Curran, R-Lemont, during the ILACP Awards Banquet and Installation of Officers. He will serve one year as president before progressing to immediate past president at next year’s banquet. President Maton succeeds the ILACP’s first female president, Chief Laura King (ret.).

About President Maton

Chief Maton began his law enforcement career as an Illinois State Police Trooper in 1986. From 1988 through 2003, his primary assignments were in drug units and multi-jurisdictional task forces. In 2001, he served as the Chairman of the Illinois MEG and Task Force Director’s Association. In 2003, he was given command of Zone 3 in Joliet. In 2009, he was appointed as the Chief of Field Operations for the Illinois State Police. In 2012, he was appointed Deputy Director of the Illinois State Police, where he served until his retirement in December 2014.

In January 2015, Maton was appointed as the Chief of Police for the Lemont Police Department. He received Police Chief certification in 2016. He is currently Past President of the IRMA Police Chief’s Steering Committee and is an Executive Board member of both the Illinois Drug Enforcement Officers Association and the Illinois Homicide Investigators Association. He also serves on the Board for the Illinois Security Professional’s Association. He has been a member of American Mensa since 1995.

Chief Maton joined the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police in 1998. He has been a Committee Chairman and Executive Board Member since 2001. He currently serves as the Chairman of the Legislative Committee.

Maton was the Illinois Crime Commission Police Chief of the Year in 2017. In 2019, he received the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police Presidents Award.  In 2020, he was honored as the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police Chief of the Year. 

Maton is a graduate of the Northwestern University Executive Management Program and the Naval Postgraduate School Executive Leaders Program. He has a bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University and a master’s in law enforcement administration from Western Illinois University. He is married with three sons and resides in Plainfield, Illinois.

Also installed on the new Board of Officers were Chief Joe Leonas, 1st Vice President; Chief Dan Ryan, 2nd Vice President; Chief Eric Barden, 3rd Vice President; Chief Kirk Brueggeman, Vice President at Large (Region 1); Chief Darren Gault, Vice President at Large (Region 2); Chief Pat Kreis, Vice President at Large (Region 3); Chief Robert A. Porter, Parliamentarian; and Dr. Laura King, Immediate Past President.

Chief Eric Barden was newly appointed to the position of 3rd Vice President this year and Chief Bob Porter took over as Parliamentarian for Steve Casstevens.
