SPECIAL ALERT: Annual Conference canceled, but some events will still happen

12:28 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2020

The 2020 Annual Conference of the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police and Installation Banquet is canceled. It was scheduled for April 29-May 1, 2020, in Oak Brook. New State of Illinois restrictions prohibit gatherings of 50 or more people through the timeframe that would include this conference. The Board of Officers made the decision to cancel this morning (March 18, 2020). This conference will not be rescheduled.

However, the following will still take place:

  • Executive Board meeting via videoconference and teleconference at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, 2020, as planned.
  • The election of 3rd Vice President from April 27-April 30, 2020. It is all electronic balloting anyway. Candidates are John Tannahill and Laura King.
  • Installation of Officers for 2020-2021. This will take place on May 1, 2020, as planned, but in a very small ceremony in Crystal Lake. Chief Jim Black will be sworn in as president.
  • An Awards Banquet. We will have this banquet, but it is being postponed, most likely to the evening of Monday, August 17, at a place to be determined. This is the night before the Expo begins in Tinley Park. Everyone already invited to the Awards Banquet on May 1 will be invited to this banquet, and Chief Jim Black will get his due recognition.

A brief word to conference attendees, vendors, and sponsors:

If you have a hotel reservation at the Hyatt Lodge in Oak Brook for the conference and would like to cancel, you can find a “cancel reservation” option in your reservation confirmation email. If you do not have that, you can call reservations and do so over the phone at (630) 568-1234.

Many people already have registered for the conference, agreed to support us as sponsors, or signed up to be vendors. All of you will be given the choice of (1) a full refund or (2) having your payment carry over to our 2021 Annual Conference, which is scheduled for April 2021 at the Tinley Park Convention Center, when Chief Mitchell R. Davis III will be sworn in as president. Any agreements with attendees, vendors and sponsors for 2020 would be honored in 2021.

Please be patient with us about this. We need to make sure that we do all of this in the right way. We need to work on language, contracts, etc., and we will be doing that in the next week or two.
