Position Opening: Aurora University Chief of Police 

P4 Security Solutions has been contracted to conduct a search and selection process for the position of Chief of Police at Aurora University (Website: 

Aurora University is a private university in Aurora, Illinois. In addition to its main campus and the Orchard Center in Aurora, Illinois, AU offers programs online, at its George Williams College campus in Williams Bay, Wisconsin, and at the Woodstock Center in downtown Woodstock, Illinois. 

The Police Department is composed of personnel, which include both sworn Officers and non-sworn Security Officers, who provide law enforcement and security services for the five campus locations. 

Position Description Includes 

  • Conducts comprehensive assessments and evaluations of the security and/or policing services for all campuses based on both established and projected needs. Recommends and implements changes based on such assessments.
  • Assists the development and management of the Campus Emergency Operations Plan; collaborates with key stakeholders and outside groups to analyze hazards, probabilities, and potential impacts, identifies internal and external resources and capabilities; assists the development of emergency response procedures; develops and coordinates training; and integrates plan into University operations.
  • Primary liaison to local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.
  • Recruits, hires, trains and supervises all Campus Public Safety staff, including review of all department documentation. 

Position Requirements: 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Sworn police officer in the State of Illinois or ability to attain sworn status as required by the Illinois Training and Standards Board within six months of employment.

Experience:

  • At least five years' supervisory experience with progressive responsibilities in administrative role.
  • Previous experience in higher education preferred.
  • Previous experience in a community based public safety environment preferred.
  • Advanced training at Northwestern University Center for Public Safety School of Staff and Command, FBI National Academy, or similar advanced training preferred. 

Skills:

  • Good communication, leadership and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Ability to supervise and lead a 24/7 operation.
  • Budget management experience preferred. 

Salary: $95,000 to $105,000 DOQ
